Seal Beach Municipal Pier Improvements Project
Summary
In May 2016, an electrical fire damaged the end of the Seal Beach Municipal Pier. Due to the fire, several small structures, utility infrastructure and charred portions of the pier were removed, and additional structural and utility repairs were required. Major coastal construction projects like this take many years of planning, designing, submitting for and receiving numerous state and federal permits, and obtaining environmental clearance. In addition, many Seal Beach residents and visitors had heard conflicting reports about the Pier and needed clarity regarding the City’s plans.
Scope:
- Led public outreach and any specific enquiries regarding the project throughout the construction period
- Provided grassroots outreach for the project at civic and Seal Beach community events
- Created an interactive project website for stakeholders to visit and track progress
- Implemented and operated Seal Beach Municipal Pier’s first ever Instagram account to help keep the community informed of visual construction progress
- Created, maintained and responded to a project hotline number
- Created and designed collateral and graphic materials including fact sheets, project handout cards, and public notice boards
- Assisted with the planning and execution of a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the re-opening of the end of the Pier
